Octopus Deploy Acquires Dist to Power Cloud-Native Software Deployments

  • Continuous deployment orchestration software company, Octopus Deploy, has announced the acquisition of Dist, a cloud-native container logging solution.
  • Disting technology will provide a seamless container registration experience for Octopus Deploy customers
  • First acquisition of a Brisbane-based company since its $172.5 million capital increase from Insight Partners

Brisbane, Australia – February 1, 2022 (January 31, 2022) – Octopus Deploy, a leading provider of continuous deployment orchestration software, today announced that it has acquired Dist, a Sydney-based cloud-native container logging service.

Over the past decade, the popularity of container technology that deploys software seamlessly into any computing environment has grown in popularity. These containers package everything needed to run the program, from the executable program, system tools, libraries, and settings, simplifying the deployment process so that applications can run on any operating system without the need for extensive revisions to work.

In the Flexera Cloud 2021 State of the Cloud report, 49% of organizations surveyed said they are currently using containerized applications in the public cloud, and another 39% are either currently experimenting or planning to use containerized applications.

Getting and integrating Dist will make deploying cloud-native apps with Octopus much smoother. Customers will also be able to deploy applications faster, achieve their compliance goals with retention policies and reduce storage costs for cloud-native applications.

Octopus Deploy CEO and co-founder Paul Stovell said Dist’s technology and expertise will be central to the company’s platform as it continues to build its public and on-premises cloud functionality.

Octopus Deploy met with Dist in October of last year, and immediately noticed a lot of similarities between the two companies. Just like Octopus Deploy, Dist is entirely powered by its Sydney-based founders, Yun Huang Young and Stephen Haynes, who will join Octopus Deploy as cloud engineers within its cloud division. The Dist brand will also be integrated into Octopus Deploy.

“In the past, if we identified jobs that were missing at Octopus Deploy, our first instinct was to put together a team of engineers to develop that job, but as we grow and mature, we realize, starting from scratch in the home, won’t always be the best way to serve,” said Stoffel. our clients.”

“Together with the Dist team, we will make it easier for software teams to offer more features, less downtime, and with less effort to manage. I am delighted to welcome the Dist team to deploy Octopus and can’t wait to see what we build together!”

After announcing in April 2021 a $172.5 million investment by Insight Partners, Octopus Deploy has also gone from strength to strength, growing its revenue by 60% in 2021 and more than double its headcount to 179 people.
