Barclays Chooses HPE GreenLake as its Private Cloud Platform

Hewlett Packard Enterprise has announced that Barclays has selected HPE GreenLake to deliver its own global cloud platform.

The bank has signed a strategic cloud partnership, whereby the edge-to-cloud HPE GreenLake platform will be an integral part of Barclays’ hybrid multi-cloud strategy and digital transformation across Barclays’ global business.

The automated and open cloud platform will host thousands of workloads and support the bank in delivering an enhanced personal banking experience to its customers.

The HPE GreenLake Edge-to-cloud platform will provide a unified on-premises cloud experience, with on-demand capability and granular consumption-based pricing for compute, memory, and storage resources, providing the flexibility, scalability and efficiency needed to meet the highest level of performance standard required in today’s digital world, according to the vendor.

“Today’s customers expect an intelligent, contextual, and personalized digital experience with seamless performance. With HPE GreenLake, we are building a cloud platform that will enable the operational performance and agility needed to achieve this ambition while providing a modern economic model for private cloud,” said Craig Bright, Group CIO at Barclays.

With the HPE GreenLake platform, Barclays will only pay for the resources you consume, with the option to book workloads and run them on demand.

Barclays’ HPE GreenLake Central is used to manage costs, usage, compliance and security across entirely private cloud ownership – through a unified global dashboard.

Furthermore, the infrastructure environment is managed by HPE, ensuring continued operation, regular patching and updates, and automation-driven infrastructure optimization.

Barclays’ global cloud platform will host thousands of applications and more than 100,000 workloads that will include Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), SQL databases, Windows Server and Linux. The migration from legacy infrastructure to the private cloud is performed by HPE Pointnext Services in partnership with the Barclays team.
