Aerospike Announces Aerospike Kubernetes Operator 2.0

Aerospike has announced the availability of Aerospike Kubernetes Operator 2.0. According to Aerospike, the launcher provides a solid basis for automation when deploying and managing the Aerospike database on Kubernetes platforms, both in the public cloud (AKS, EKS, GKE) and on-premises.

The launcher supports the following capabilities:

  • Post Aerospike groups
  • Scale the up and down action of existing Aerospike kits
  • Upgrade and downgrade
  • Configure persistent storage and allocate resources
  • Standardization and verification of configurations
  • Cluster Security Management
  • Attach custom side cars and starter containers

Enhanced monitoring and management capabilities

Trigger 2.0 provides enhanced monitoring and alerting of events in the Aerospike database through the Prometheus Exporter Sidecar that can be added to Aerospike server pods. Together with the control plane capabilities of Aerospike Kubernetes Operator 2.0, this provides the ability to deploy and monitor and manage Aerospike database clusters on Kubernetes. There are a number of Grafana dashboards that are configured to work with our Prometheus feeds. Together, this provides a sound foundation for monitoring and managing Aerospike clusters on Kubernetes.

Additional new capabilities:

  • Pods warm restart for block changes, allowing Aerospike service to be restarted without deleting capsules
  • Network optimizations and load balancing
  • TLS improvements to secrets and client certificates
  • awareness support rack
  • Support for custom configuration of resources (for example, volumes and security certificates)
  • Formation of fine grains for volumes
  • Pod scheduling improvements
  • Install, manage, and upgrade Aerospike Kubernetes Operator 2.0 using the Operator Lifecycle Manager (OLM)
  • Aerospike Enterprise Server 5.6.x and 5.7.x supported
  • Kubernetes support 1.20, 1.21 and 1.22

Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform Certificate

The Aerospike Kubernetes Operator 2.0 is compatible with the Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform and will be submitted for certification with this release and will be made available in the RedHat catalog of ecosystems. Version 2.0 of our launcher supports both Helm and OLM charts.

According to Aerospike, Aerospike Kubernetes Operator 2.0 represents a major step forward in providing a complete level of control for Kubernetes-based Aerospike clusters. The company added that because the company added new control capabilities, the APIs had to be changed, so version 2.0 is not compatible with version 1.x.
